Mohan Yadav, the recent appointee as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, has a compelling political journey that began as a legislator from Ujjain. Familiar with the corridors of power, Yadav previously served as the Minister of Higher Education in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

Hailing from the OBC community, Mohan Yadav’s name garnered attention during a pivotal BJP legislative meeting. His political voyage commenced in 2013 when he clinched the Ujjain South seat as a legislator, resonating with the public again in the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections.

July 2nd, 2020 marked a significant milestone in Yadav’s career when he ascended to the role of Cabinet Minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan administration, entrusted with the responsibilities of the Higher Education portfolio. Notably, his image resonates as a Hindutva leader, sharing a close affiliation with the RSS.

Born on March 25, 1965, in Ujjain, Yadav boasts an impressive academic background with degrees in BSc, LLB, Political Science (MA), MBA, and a PhD. Sources indicate the possibility of two Deputy Chief Ministers in Madhya Pradesh, potentially Jagbir Devara and Rajendra Shukla, with Narendra Singh Tomar expected to assume the Speaker’s position.

Delving deeper into his political history, Yadav’s ties with ABVP remained steadfast. His association dates back to 1982 when he served as the Joint Secretary of the Madhav Science College Student Union, later assuming the presidency in 1984. Progressing through the ranks, he held roles such as the City Minister for ABVP Ujjain in 1984 and Department Head in 1986.

His active involvement in the political landscape continued as he became the Deputy State Minister and a National Executive member of ABVP in 1988. He subsequently ascended to the position of State Minister for ABVP’s provincial unit in 1989-90 and then to the National Minister for the Council in 1991-92.

Yadav’s commitment extended to societal organizations as well, serving as a pivotal figure in the RSS’s activities in Ujjain from 1993 to 1995, followed by a role in the Pradesh Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in 1997. His repertoire includes being part of the Western Railway Board’s Advisory Committee in 1998.

Throughout the years, he remained deeply entrenched in various capacities, contributing as a member of Vikram University’s Council (2000-2003) and holding leadership positions within the BJP’s district unit in Ujjain. Noteworthy was his tenure as the Chairman of the Ujjain Development Authority from 2004 to 2010, subsequently earning him the designation of State Minister.

His impactful trajectory continued with responsibilities such as Chairmanship at MP Tourism Development Corporation, Bhopal (2011-2013), and membership within BJP’s state executive committee.
