Sam Smith slammed after hoax video of embarrassing stage dive

“Unholy” diver.

Sam Smith is trending on Twitter following a wild video that appeared to show them attempting a stage dive with disastrous results.

A video of the catastrophic crowd-surfing attempt has amassed nearly 8 million views on TikTok as critics ripped the British singing sensation online.

In the cringe-worthy clip, captioned “Sam Smith stage diving in Seattle,” a person purported to be the star can be seen attempting to leap into the crowd at a concert.

The stunt backfires tremendously after concert-goers fail to catch the crowd surfer, causing them to hit the ground hard.

Shortly thereafter, however, Twitter’s community notes revealed that the person was not actually Sam Smith, but some unidentified reveler who dove into the crowd at a Vanilla Ice concert in Oregon on Saturday.

Unfortunately, the fact-check came too little too late. By that time, the pop star was the talk of Twitter as gawkers disseminated this urban legend of the fall.

“Sam Smith tries crowd surfing,” mused one poster along with the aforementioned TikTok clip. “It goes about as well as expected.”

“Sam Smith doing a Crowd Surf at Seattle Concert. 5 dead 43 injured,” quipped another critic of the fall-sely accused vocalist.

“HAHA Sam Smith attempting to crowd surf is the best thing I’ve seen today,” chortled a third.

Meanwhile, some online pundits used the clip as an opportunity to attack the “Not the Only One” singer’s highly publicized pro-body positivity stance and pronoun preferences.

“Sam Smith, who is ‘body positive’ and uses ‘they/them’ pronouns, tries crowd surfing. It goes about as well as you’d expect,” snarked conservative commentator Ian Miles Cheong.

Sam Smith fans, meanwhile, scrambled to clear the performer’s name, presumably hoping to prevent them from becoming the next enduring celebrity hoax.

“Despite various ACCOUNTS spreading false information,” clarified one Smith die-hard. “Sam Smith DID not stage dive at any Concert..”

Others included footage of the tumble from the frontal angle, which clearly showed that the fall-simile was not, in fact, Smith.

The real identity of the disastrous diver has not yet been made public.
