‘And Just Like That’ crew leaks new details about Kim Cattrall return

And just like that . . . everyone’s talking about Kim Cattrall’s arrival on the “Sex and the City” spinoff series.

The stars of “And Just Like That. . .” are revealing even more details about Cattrall’s appearance — and costume designer Molly Rogers dished on the return of both Cattrall and Patricia Field, the head costumer of the original “Sex and the City” series.

On May 31, The Post exclusively reported that Cattrall, 66, would again inhabit the iconic role of Samantha Jones in Season 2 of “AJLT.”

Cattrall will make a cameo in a “cliffhanger” for the upcoming season of the Max series with a scene that allegedly sees Samantha talking to Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) on the phone — which may come as a surprise to longtime viewers, as Cattrall has famously feuded with her former co-stars, particularly Parker, in the press.

But Parker, 58, told Entertainment Weekly that she “thought it was a really nice idea” to bring Samantha back.

“Samantha is present in Season 1 and more so in Season 2 via text. It was just a nice nod to the 25 years [of ‘Sex and the City’] to add the face to the text,” Parker told the outlet.

She continued sharing more context to the cameo: “It’s a really opportune moment in the story, [a] consequential event happening in Carrie’s life, that Samantha rings and they have this quick, lovely, sentimental, funny call. And it just feels normal and really nice, and I’m glad that we could manage it and work it out and get it sorted time-wise and schedule-wise.”

“It’s a very sweet, sentimental phone call that happens in a particular time in Carrie’s life,” Parker told E! News. “And it’s just punctuated by this phone call. I hope people enjoy it.”

Despite rumors of a feud between SJP and Cattrall, Parker shared that the cameo was “really fun and exciting and certainly nostalgic,” according to a Daily Mail report.

“It’s been a lot of joy,” Parker added.

Kristin Davis, 58, told EW that there was a conversation about Cattrall’s return, and they ultimately “decided that it was right for the fans.”

“The fans miss Samantha. The fans love Samantha. Samantha’s a fantastic character. We get it,” Davis said, noting that this year is the 25th anniversary of the original show. “It seemed like something that would be great to do.”

In Season 1 of “And Just Like That. . .,” viewers learn that Cattrall’s character moved to London after a falling out with Carrie — a meta storyline, all things considered. After Carrie’s husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth) passed away, Carrie and Samantha began to text each other.

Davis — who reprises her role as Charlotte York — added that it “seemed like we had to honor the story.”

“Sometimes people aren’t in your life every day, but that doesn’t mean that you’re not connected,” Davis told the outlet. “I can’t give anything else away about the story, ’cause we’re trying to keep what secrets are left secret, but it makes sense for the circumstance that it’s in.”

She added, “Now that [fans] know about it, it seems like this very large thing, but it’s not really a very large thing. So I’m hoping that people are happy.”

Davis previously admitted that she doesn’t have any strong feelings toward Cattrall and her reprisal of Samantha. When asked if any of the cast speaks to Cattrall, Davis told the Telegraph, “You have to respect people’s wishes.”

“I’m not gonna waste energy on it. I can’t change anybody. I do understand fans’ feelings — that they’re upset … I wish I could fix it, but I can’t. It’s not in my power,” she added.

Cynthia Nixon, 57, echoed the fear of disappointment, saying she wished fans didn’t know Cattrall was going to even be in the series.

“The thing that we were also really excited about was to have nobody be expecting Samantha and then have her pop in,” she told EW. “I just hope it’s not just a tremendous anti-climax, to be frank.”

Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes, explained to Vanity Fair recently that Cattrall’s shocking return is “not something that we speak about.” She also seemingly hinted that the “SATC” cast had to “[walk] around on eggshells with someone who’s unhappy.”

Even costume designer Rogers teased some insight into the comeback of Samantha.

“Maybe she’s in a bathtub,” Rogers teased to E! News.

“The fans better simmer a little bit,” she joked. “Sometimes, when you build up your birthday party, you’re like: ‘I got to get dressed for my birthday party, I’ve got to get dressed for my birthday party,’ and then you finally get dressed, and you’re like, ‘I wore myself out.’ “

She also shared that Field, the head costumer of the original “Sex and the City” series, also came back to style Cattrall.

“We were very, very happy since Pat’s a dear friend of both of us,” Rogers said. “She and Kim have remained close after all this time.”

Earlier this month, Evan Handler — who plays Harry Goldenblatt, the husband of the character Charlotte York — told People he thinks “it is great” that the estranged cast member is coming back.

“Apparently, [her cameo] was shot in the garage somewhere with no contact with anybody, so the only place I have to welcome her is into my living room when it airs on television,” he added.

Meanwhile, Cattrall herself has not said much about her appearance in the upcoming season other than an Instagram post featuring a screenshot of a Variety article about her return with the caption, “Happy Pride.”

Season 2 of “And Just Like That. . .” premieres Thursday, June 22, on Max. Season 1 is now streaming on the platform.
