Both the central and state governments have taken advantage of the crude oil epidemic in India, when crude oil is at an all-time low in petroleum-producing countries. The lockdown raised petrol and diesel prices for 22 consecutive days to meet the profits of some oil companies, as well as to pay their revenue, endangering the lives and livelihoods of ordinary people. For the first time in the history of India, diesel prices have been higher than petrol.
Rising oil prices have spoiled the lives of common people, especially farmers. According to the Petroleum Minister, it will not affect the general public, which is like a white lie. The All India Students’ Union (EUU) has been protesting at the master canteen square in protest against the anti-people policies of the government as it confiscates grain from people’s stomachs.
There was a demand to include GST with immediate reduction in petrol and diesel prices. According to the central government, the union has asked the petroleum minister who will raise excise and VAT if the oil prices are determined from the market.
EOJ state president Sanghamitra Jena strongly condemned both the state and central governments, saying the government’s policies were more dangerous than “Corona”. The union has demanded the resignation of Kush Puppet, the petroleum minister. More than 30 students attended, including EOH state secretaries Jagannath Patra, Lipan Hota, Vivek Krishna, Kumari Rashmi, Lopamudra, Manas Ranjan Kar and Mamuni Parida.
